Music Educator
Professional Memberships
I am incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to engage with so many professional organizations both on and off campus so far in my collegiate career. The opportunities that these memberships have provided me have supplemented many of the gaps in my formal education.

National Association for Music Education Collegiate

I have been an active member of Penn State’s chapter of NAfME-Collegiate since Fall 2018. I have volunteered as a student ambassador on School of Music Audition Days, and I served as the chapter’s secretary in 2021 term. My membership in this organization has also allowed me to access countless resources and publications as well as the to attend the 2019 PMEA/Eastern Division Conference. I use the knowledge, skills, and contacts that I have gained through NAfME-Collegiate daily as I complete my music education coursework.

Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association

For the past three years, I have served as PCMEA Region III Coordinator. My duties in this position have included planning a region wide professional development event as well as facilitating more interconnections among collegiate music education programs across the state. I have learned so much about contacting vendors and clinicians, how to advertise, and how to facilitate large events through this role. Serving as Region III Coordinator has intensely developed my leadership skills.

National Band Association

I have served as the secretary for our collegiate chapter of this organization (Nittany Band Association). Through this role, I ran our weekly fundraiser and facilitating meetings. I am very thankful to have this alternative leadership experience which has helped me to develop my administrative skills which will benefit me as a teacher later on!

Organization of American Kodaly Educators

Although I am a relatively new member of this organization, I am very excited to develop my skills and resources in the Kodaly method. In fact, I obtained my Level 1 certification in the Kodaly approach during Summer 2021. This opportunity will provide me with more lesson planning and pedagogical knowledge for the elementary general classroom.

American Choral Directors Association

I have recently joined this organization because I am striving to be as diverse of a music educator as possible. I love singing and being in choir, and my membership in this organization has allowed me to develop my skills further which was a great advantage during my choral student teaching placement!

Professional development is something I am very passionate about. In order to best serve their students, educators must continue to learn and stay up-to-date with the most recent developments in the field. In the future, I plan to do more training in methodologies like Orff-Schulwerk and World Music Drumming. In addition, I plan to be an active member in the organizations I have already joined and attend conferences and workshops to bring fresh activities and ideas into my classroom.
