The 2021-2022 Penn State Clarinet Studio!

In order to develop excellent musicianship to model for their students, music educators must develop competency on an instrument of their choice. The reputation of the Penn State Clarinet Studio was what attracted me to Penn State in the first place! The notion that I could grow as a musician under the direction of such a fine teacher, Dr. Anthony Costa, and in the company of supportive peers sounded ideal. Being a member of this studio has been a dream come true. I have grown as a clarinetist in ways I could have never imagined as well as made lifelong friendships.

This performance earned me a spot as a semi-finalist for Woodwind Jury Honors! I am very proud of this performance as it is an indicator of progress during a time when making music was difficult. I really enjoyed learning this piece as a junior and then being able to refresh it to open my senior recital in the next semester.

This performance ended my senior recital on October 16, 2021. It was a joy to be able to share 10 years of hard work on the clarinet with my family and friends. This piece in particular had been a challenge that took me outside of my comfort zone since it included a pre-recorded electronic accompaniment.

Ensembles

As part of the Music Education course work at Penn State, students have the opportunity to participate in musical ensembles. I have been a member of various chamber groups, including clarinet quartets and choir, Campus Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Oriana Singers. I worked with many fabulous directors and music educators through my ensemble experiences, including Mr. Dennis Glocke, Mrs. Jayne Glocke, Dr. Gregory Drane, Dr. Kathryn Hylton, and Dr. Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin. The learning and significant musical experiences I have gained through ensemble membership at Penn State will stay with me forever and always influence the way I teach.

These are my last performances with Penn State School of Music Ensembles during the Fall 2021 semester.

Secondary Instruments

As a future elementary general music and choir teacher, I rely on my skills on secondary instruments to facilitate music learning in the classroom. I have worked hard to learn to play choral parts on piano as well as play instruments to accompany myself and my students while singing. These videos feature me singing and playing guitar, piano, and ukulele. I have also worked hard to develop my vocal abilities and consider singing a secondary performance area as well.
